Finally done with these! KORRA GANGNAM STYLE!! YES. I’ve kind of always known and believed this theory, but this is just obvious now lol. Amon is blocking the chakra, and it is worsened by everyone believing the illusion that Amon is creating with his fake “power”.

Also another thing that seems kind of obvious in hindsight when it comes to Amon “taking away the bending”, when Aang took the bending from Ozai and Yakone he placed his hand on both the forehead and the heart.

The heart is the chakra is one that deals with love and is blocked by grief. While it seems like a stretch, we can assume that most benders have a love or a feeling similar to it when it comes to their bending, right? :1 

MAKES ALL THE SENSE. Especially since Amon’s cultists are as often called Chi Blockers as Equalists. It’s what they are, how they fight. Amon is just better at it than his sheep, and more charismatic. He can make you BELIEVE him, and uses the techniques at his command to further reinforce this terrifying lie.
